Marriage is supposedly a sacred ceremony between two people who love each other. For the most part, when people have been married for a very long time, it seems certain that they will continue to stay together. However, that is not always the case.
Former Miss Hong Kong 1981 runner-up Winnie Chin Wai Yee (钱慧仪) recently revealed some shocking news. She and her husband, socialite banker Philip Ma Ching-yeung (马清扬), are divorcing after 27 years. As it turns out, the two may have split because of Philip’s sordid affair with a Ukrainian model!
Winnie came into the public eye in 1981 when she won runner-up in the Miss Hong Kong competition then. Although her career in film and television never really took off, she lived a happy life, especially after marrying Philip. The duo tied the knot in 1995 and had three children; two sons and a daughter. Unfortunately, the happy life didn’t last.
In 2018, there were rumours that Philip had cheated on Winnie with a Ukrainian model, Ksenia B. The couple reportedly gave each other the cold shoulder for four months after. In fact, during that time, when their second son graduated, it was noted that only Philip had been in attendance. However, Philip later spoke to the media to explain what had happened. He confirmed that they were ‘fighting’ but added that Winnie was struggling emotionally and was seeing someone about it.
Yesterday (27th September), Winnie apparently issued a statement saying: “It hurts, I’m tired and my heart is broken! This (song) represents my mood for the past four years. Today, I decided to start anew, and say goodbye to a lost love and 27 years of marriage. Please do not call me (Mrs. Ma) again in the future. Thank you.” Many then took it to mean that Winnie and Philip were officially divorced.
However, reports claimed that Philip had actually filed for divorce earlier as he had hoped to marry Ksenia. Winnie had supposedly been against the divorce and refused to allow it. Reports then alleged that Philip had forced Winnie to move to a small room with no windows, which eventually resulted in her accepting the divorce.
Our hearts go out to the 59-year-old actress and her children. It must be difficult, seeing your partner of so many years give you up for someone else. We hope Winnie finds peace in her divorce soon.
