It’s official, our hometown girl, Michelle Yeoh has just found her next big role!
Michelle Yeoh is set to play scientist Dr. Karina Mogue in James Cameron’s upcoming sequels to his 2009 masterpiece, “Avatar”.
According to Variety, it was revealed that the sequel which is the first of four follow-ups will hit cinemas on 18th December 2020. Whereas, the rest of the films will premiere in the subsequent years.
In other words, “Avatar 3” will be released on 17th December 2021, “Avatar 4” on 20th December 2024, and “Avatar 5” on 19th December 2025.
The publication also disclosed of Cameron’s intention to produce the motion picture with Jon Landau under their production company, Lightstorm Entertainment.
Following the announcement, Cameron has come forth to express his excitement over Yeoh’s involvement in the franchise, noting;
“Throughout her career, Michelle has always created unique and memorable characters. I look forward to working with Michelle to do the same thing on the Avatar sequels.”
Prior to landing this role, Yeoh gained recognition for her performance in movies like “Crouching Tiger”, “Hidden Dragon”, “Tomorrow Never Dies”, and of course as Eleanor Young in last year’s “Crazy Rich Asians”.
Her upcoming projects include starring in her own spin-off series for Star Trek, Paul Feig’s upcoming comedy “Last Christmas”, and Joe Carnahan’s “Boss Level”.
