As we enter the second phase of movement control order (MCO), tighter regulations will be implemented.

Starting this Wednesday (1st April), Defence Minister Ismail Sabri announced that the public will have to abide by the “one person per car only” rule.

“As we have previously mentioned, for private vehicles, although they are allowed to go out to get food and essential supplies, the government has decided it will be one person in one car,” said Ismail Sabri during the daily non-health press conference.

The objective of this restriction, which will take effect during Phase two (from 1st – 14th April), is to minimise movement from the public. Operation hours for eateries, markets, and petrol stations will also commence from 8am – 8pm from 1st April.

Previously, only the “head of the family” was allowed to go out to do grocery shopping. Extra occupants were allowed provided if there was a valid reason. Moving forward, absurd reasons will no longer be entertained. The police will probably make an exception if you’re sending someone sick to see a doctor.

According to Malay Mail, the police has made 828 arrests nationwide against those who defied the MCO.
