Most fast-food restaurants will always serve free condiments along with their meals. However, this local man was shocked when McDonald’s allegedly charged him for a few packets of chilli sauce.

Recently, netizen Siaful Adly took to his Facebook to share his woes after a particular encounter he had at a McDonald’s in Ayer Keroh, Melaka. Apparently, he had asked for some packets of chilli sauce for his meal, however, to his surprise, the extra condiments did not come free!

“Life is getting harder,” Siaful Adly lamented in his Facebook post. “Asking for extra sauce at McD also (means) you’ll get charged (for it) now…” Reportedly, he had asked the staff for 10 extra packets of chilli sauce for his fast food meal.

To his surprise, he ended up having to pay a hefty fee for them. “10 packets of chilli sauce (cost) RM10.60,” he shared. “Congratulations to Ayer Keroh’s McDonald’s for taking proactive steps (which are) in line with the rising prices of rice in the world…”

According to his receipt which he included in his post, the assumed ‘free’ chilli sauce packets cost RM1 each, which brought it up to a total of RM10. To make matters worse, he was apparently charged a 6% service fee, resulting in him paying a grand amount of RM10.60 for 10 packets of chilli sauce.

Netizens first lambasted him for attempting to buy chili sauce from McDonald’s as his receipt only showed the price paid for his 10 packets of chili sauce. “Shame on you, McDonald’s should charge RM100 fee for your stupidity,” one netizen stated. Another said: “You went into McDonald’s just to buy the sauce?”

However, another netizen later clarified that Siaful had ordered and gotten his food before realising he did not have enough chilli sauce for his meal. When he made his request at the counter, he was allegedly told to buy more. But, this claim has not been confirmed by Siaful himself.

Still, his situation left many others puzzled. “(With) RM10.60, (you can) get one bottle (of chilli sauce). That’s expensive,” a netizen opined. Another claimed charging for extra sauce was normal. “If you ask for more, you will have to pay more. The store has an inventory which needs to be managed,” they wrote.

Well, regardless of whether Siaful truly did walk into McDonald’s for chili sauce, or if he simply wanted more for his meal, RM1 for a packet of chili sauce doesn’t seem worth it. Perhaps it’s time to start bringing your own extra condiments around, if need be.
