The McD Bukit Bintang Outlet Requires Customers To Enter Passcodes When Entering The Toilet

Security features in an establishment are not only for the staff’s safety and comfort but for the customers as well. We wouldn’t want anyone random taking advantage of the facilities and causing disturbance or discomfort to everyone around. So it’s pretty normal if a company limits its facilities access from the public.

For instance, many cafes and restaurants would give out the Wifi password or internet access to paying customers only. That’s pretty much the norm and you’d see it almost everywhere you go but how would you react if you need a passcode to use a restaurant’s restroom?

A Twitter user who goes by @tekong or Ikhwan Nazri posted a photo over the weekend of their recent visit to a Mcdonald’s outlet in Kuala Lumpur. The photo is of a receipt with a caption that reads, “It’s normal for shops to give the Wifi password to paying customers. It is however not normal for Mcdonald’s to give passcodes to use the restrooms”.

As you can see at the bottom of the receipt in the photo, there is apparently a passcode for paying customers to input in order to use the restaurant’s restroom. When another netizen asked if their restrooms are really locked, the Twitter user replied with a photo of the male restroom with a keypad located next to it. If you’re wondering which outlet this Mcdonald’s is located, according to the Ikhwan, it is actually the Bukit Bintang outlet.

Some netizens were left confused as to why customers would need a passcode to enter the restroom while others weren’t so surprised by the tweet as this has been a common practice elsewhere, especially in European countries.

If you’re wondering why this Mcdonald’s restaurant implemented this security feature, it’s been speculated that it’s probably a way for the fast food chain to ensure the cleanliness of their toilet stalls as customers have complained about hygiene. It may also be a way to make sure non-customers don’t hog the facilities meant to be used by paying customers.

As seen in the screenshots above, not everyone is happy with this implementation. What do you think? Should McD keep their toilets open for all or continue to limit access to paying customers only?
