“Bring The Rain!” Adam Levine screamed through his performance in Bukit Jalil. While many were celebrating the last day of Chinese New Year (Chap Goh Mei), thousands of music lovers showed up at National Hockey Stadium for Maroon 5’s concert.
It’s been over a decade since Maroon 5 last performed in Malaysia for their “Overexposed Tour” 2012. Local fans were eager to welcome back frontman Adam Levine and his amazing band (Jesse Carmichael, James Valentine, Matt Flynn, PJ Morton and Sam Farrar). Fresh off from their shows in Japan over the weekend, the pop-rock group delivered a night of dancing, singing, and plenty of nostalgia.
The concert kicked off with the quick one-two punch of “Animals”, “One More Night”, and “This Love”. The atmosphere was set, the night would be a sing-along concert filled with a well-curated mix of their classic hits and newer tracks. Although the band is made up of 6 members, there was no mistake that this was the Adam Levine show.
It was a bummer when the sky started to rain but the downpour did little to dampen the spirits of both the band and the thousands of dedicated fans who packed the stadium. Despite the challenging weather conditions, Adam Levine’s electrifying performance shone through, proving his status as a world-class performer. Drenched but undeterred, he engaged the crowd with his signature charm and powerhouse vocals, making every song feel even more special.
Adam’s familiar falsetto didn’t waver and his dynamic stage presence was evident throughout the night. He got everyone to sing along to the oohs during “Stereo Hearts”, before upping the tempo with “Harder” and “Lucky Strike”. When we needed to catch our breath, Maroon 5 slowed things down with “Sunday Morning” and “Payphone”.
It was a night of Maroon 5’s greatest hits as audiences rocked out to the feel-good anthem “Don’t Wanna Know”, and energetic “Love Somebody”, before reminding everyone that he still has the “moves like Jagger”. The sexy lead singer was magnetic as he glided effortlessly from one side of the stage to the another end, waving and blowing kisses to fans along the way.
The concert wouldn’t be complete with an encore and Maroon 5 came back onstage for an intimate number of “She Will Be Loved”, before concluding the show with “Girls Like You” and “Sugar”. In the end, the weather couldn’t overshadow the sheer excitement of seeing Maroon 5 live in Kuala Lumpur. In fact, some might say that it added a magical element to the overall experience.
