Nowadays, it’s simultaneously easy and difficult to identify a scam but regardless, these tricksters would use different tactics in order to fool their victims. Not too long ago, a local event promoter shared his experience of getting scammed by a former venue manager who ran away with his money.

It should be common practice to do some research before purchasing your items but sadly, this man had to learn the hard way. He spent nearly RM20k on repairments after purchasing an already broken-down used car. Here’s what happened:

On Sunday (14th January), a man who goes by Khairil CG on Facebook posted his experience of purchasing a used Mitsubishi Triton Mivec 2017 model at Cassa Auto City Sdn Bhd in Seri Kembangan. He alleged that the company had scammed him after finding out that the car he purchased was already damaged. “I’ve only driven it 48 hours before it broke down. Turns out, it was already broken! There’s mud in the engine and they even adjusted the mileage,” he wrote.

The dissatisfied customer then explained in full detail when he started to notice something suspicious and how much it cost him to have the car repaired. According to the timeline in the post, he picked up the new car on 1st December 2023 but the car suddenly overheated two days later while he was on his way to Kedah. Unfortunately, his insurance does not cover the cost of towing his car.

When the customer called the salesman from Cassa Auto, he claimed that the company said that they were not responsible for anything that had happened to the car after it was sold. He then took the car to the workshop on 13th December for further inspection and found out 2 days later everything that was wrong with the vehicle. Since he had no other choice, Khairil took the car for repairments which cost him a total of RM17,275.

The post attracted the attention of netizens on both Facebook and Twitter with many sympathising with Khairil. Some even claimed to be victims of Cassa Auto City’s scams as well. Others advised the user to file a police report against the company and what he should do if something like this happens again.

Cassa Auto City has yet to release an official statement regarding the viral story, however, a dealer known as Adik Jun of Premiums Selection By Cassa posted on both his Facebook and TikTok that he’ll look into the situation to solve the issue. “Give me time. I need to hear from both sides; the customer and the sales team. I’ll keep you guys updated on this case,” he wrote.
