Given the current economic situation, many Malaysians have taken up a part-time job alongside their full-time position for additional income. However, this Malaysian man has taken up the challenge of holding two full-time jobs.

Sharing through the Instagram page ‘Malaysian Pay Gap’, this 29-year-old shared how he works two full-time jobs for a combined monthly income of over RM14,000. In the post, the man referred to this dual-income situation as “overemployment”, a term first coined by Reddit users.

The English Language graduate works as a content management specialist at an analytics and intelligence company. The job pays him over RM7,300 and is remote work. For his second job, the man works remotely as a localisation specialist or a translator for a mobile technology company for around RM6,000 to RM7,000 per month. According to the man, when writing resumes and updating his LinkedIn, he specifies his second job as freelance despite it being a full-time role.

He revealed that both companies were aware of his situation, but he had never specified the company’s name. He advises those interested in holding two full-time jobs to check with their employers before applying for a second job. He said, “If your contract doesn’t forbid you from doing so, by all means, go for it.” He also said he makes sure both companies can get a hold of him during work hours and to reply to work messages on time.

He also shared his daily schedule to accommodate these two jobs, which includes waking up earlier to catch up on emails. He utilises a to-do list and arranges his time to complete all his tasks. He said he spends around three hours on each job but added that it’s because he works fast. However, the Malaysian will also work additional hours to catch up on work or get a headstart on new tasks.

Many netizens have reacted to this man’s sharing, saying it’s informative and inspiring. The post also left many interested in following in the man’s footsteps, even asking questions like where to find remote work roles. However, those already holding two positions say that it’s not as easy as it sounds, but the additional income does make it worth the effort.

What do you think about the man’s “overemployed” lifestyle? Would you like to give it a try?
