Malaysian Retrieves iPhone After Losing It In The LRT; Sparks Controversy

In this day and age, mobile phones have been an important part of our lives. To some people, phones are deemed to be essential. So losing your phone might feel like you’re losing your whole life. Remember the man who lost his phone in a gorge? It’s a miracle how it was still working after he retrieved it.

Speaking of miracles, this netizen recently shared her story of how she lost her iPhone in the LRT and how she managed to get it back after so long! Here’s what happened:

Y’all… 13 months ago I accidentally left my iphone on the LRT. Reported it but never heard back, so I assumed that I lost it forever. But! A few days ago RapidKL called saying they recovered it. I finally got it back today. Is this the @anthonyloke effect??

This netizen who goes by the name of Sharifah Yasmin posted a tweet to share that she had apparently lost her phone more than a year ago but was suddenly contacted by a RapidKL staff informing her of the good news. After 13 long months, she was finally reunited with her old phone.

But in a following tweet, she clarified to the public that it wasn’t a RapidKL worker that had a hand in this but fellow good Samaritan instead. A tweet by Aiman Tajuddin revealed that it was a security guard that found her phone and the supervisor was the one who contacted her.

Salam😅 actually security saya yang jumpa your iPhone. Saya supervisor officer dia. Saya yang contact you jumaat lepas. Dan saya bukan staff RapidKL😅 pic.twitter.com/7yeRLbESvT

In the tweet by Aiman, he even included a picture of her phone and how he contacted her sister to inform her of the discovery. In the caption, he wrote, “Salam, it was actually a security of mine that found your iPhone. I’m his supervisor. I contacted you last Friday. I am also not a RapidKL staff.”

Sharifah immediately replied to him and apologised. She explained that her sister informed her that it was a RapidKL security guard who had found it. However, despite the happy reunion, what made the tweet controversial is that the user mentioned and gave credit to Malaysia’s new Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke, rather than thanking the actual people who found her phone.

Scrolling through Twitter, netizens weren’t happy to see her credit Anthony Loke instead of the actual people behind the scenes. One netizen replied, “RapidKL staff was the one who found it, but the minister gets the credit.” Another said, “If lost but not found, whose effect is it?”

Losing things in public can be a hassle and living in Malaysia, the chances of getting them back are one in a million. But once in a blue moon, good samaritans help out in any way they can. Despite all this, we are happy that Sharifah is finally reunited with her phone.
