After nearly two years of silence, Malaysian post-hardcore band d_leted is making a striking return with the release of their new single, “Cela.”
This marks an exciting chapter for the band. It’s their first-ever official music video and fully-Bahasa Melayu release, which demonstrates just how much d_leted has evolved since their debut. This new track brings an edgier sound, but more importantly, it carries a deeply meaningful message that speaks to the long-lasting effects of bullying and abuse.
Over the past year, d_leted has undergone some major changes. After the departure of two founding members, the band welcomed Amirul Khairul on lead guitar and Faizah Ismail as the new lead vocalist. The shift in lineup has injected fresh energy into the band, blending metalcore elements with their signature post-hardcore style to create a heavier, sharper sound. From the moment the first riff of “Cela” hits, Amirul’s dynamic guitar work propels the track forward, while Faizah’s powerful vocals give it an undeniable edge. This new direction is unmistakable, setting a bold tone for what’s to come.
At the core of “Cela” is the story of a survivor’s internal struggle with the trauma left behind by abuse. The lyrics poignantly explore the emotional toll of healing, as well as the ongoing battle to escape the shadows of the past. Lines like “Selindung di balik wajahmu, Namun ku akui, Dugaan yang sering menghantuiku” (Hiding behind your face, but I admit, the trials that haunt me) capture the weight of emotional scars, while the pre-chorus “Sedar, tak sedar, Di belakangmu tertinggal, Sisa-sisa jahilmu” (Aware or not, behind you, lies the remnants of your ignorance) calls attention to the lasting effects of an abuser’s actions.
The chorus drives home the urgency of the message: “Berhenti, tinggalkan cela yang kau lakukan” (Stop, leave behind the stain you have caused). It’s a bold declaration, not only for the survivor but also for the abuser, urging them to confront the damage they’ve inflicted. It’s a stark reminder that healing is not linear, and the echoes of the past often resurface unexpectedly.
Directed by rhythm guitarist Haryth Hilmy, the music video for “Cela” is as intense and gripping as the track itself. The stark visuals reflect the raw emotion embedded in the song, allowing viewers to feel the turmoil and internal conflict that comes with abuse. As d_leted’s first music video, they’ve poured everything into making it as cinematic and emotional as the music, creating an unforgettable experience.
With “Cela,” d_leted has not only reinvented their sound but also reaffirmed their commitment to addressing important social issues. This is more than just a song – it’s a statement. The band hopes to ignite conversations about abuse and mental health while offering a powerful anthem for those who have suffered in silence.
