Our Malaysian badminton doubles pairs are history makers! At the recent Indonesia Masters 2026, the players clinched three out of five titles, marking the first time the country has won three titles in one Super 500 tournament.
Women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, were the first to secure a win, after their opponents, Japan’s Arisa Igarashi and Miyu Takahashi, withdrew at the last minute. The win marks Pearly and Thinaah’s first title for 2026. However, the pair expressed mixed feelings over the victory, saying it’s a shame they couldn’t play against their opponents in the finals.

Mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, won Malaysia’s second gold at the tournament. At the same time, the two became the first Malaysian pair to win the category since the Indonesia Masters’ inception in 2010. They won against Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje (15-21, 21-17, 21-11), to secure their first title of the year.
Finally, the men’s doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin, secured Malaysia’s hat- trick by defeating Indonesia’s Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin. The pair won 21-19, 21-13 in 37 minutes. The win also marked the pair’s first title for 2026 after early exits at the Malaysia Open and Indonesia Open earlier this month.

With the three wins, Malaysia is the fifth country to achieve a hat-trick in a world tour, after China, Indonesia, Korea and Japan. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan won the men’s singles against Thailand’s Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul, and China’s Chen Yufei won the women’s singles against Thailand’s Pitchamon Opatniputh.
Congratulations to our Malaysian badminton players on the historic win! Let’s hope they can maintain the momentum for the next tournament, the Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters 2026, taking place later this week.
