It is without a doubt that seafood, particularly fish, play a big part in our everyday meals. But would you eat a Flowerhorn fish?

A netizen known as Muhammad Firdaus Othman (or Saya Cakap on Facebook) recently took to Facebook to share his Flowerhorn dish. In his post, he said that he seasoned the fish (which cost him RM2,845) with turmeric and fried it with oil. The 28-year-old Perakian also wrote that he cut off the hump on the fish’s head because it was just “fat”.

Commonly known as “Fa Luo Han” or Arowana among Malaysians, the expensive aquarium fish is famed for its colourful appearance and distinctively shaped head. Moreover, many believed that it symbolises good luck and can bring good “feng shui” into one’s home.

After his post, which was uploaded last Tuesday (11th July), went viral, many netizens called him “crazy” and criticised his actions. However, he was unfazed by his haters. In an update, he wrote, “Yes its tasty, sweet, and juicy. Served hot right away from the pan, super delicious fried fish.”

He continued, “What do u mean (this fish) cannot be eaten? Fish is a kind of food. That vivid and beautiful look doesn’t mean you cant touch it.”

As at time of writing, his video has been viewed over 4 million times.

In speaking with Sinar Harian, Muhammad Firdaus Othman said that he “didn’t think anything strange” about eating the fish, adding that he and his friends have not had any side effects so far.
