In hopes of driving more tourist traffic towards Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur Tourism Bureau and City Hall has given Kuala Lumpur a brand new identity.

Now known as “A City of Contrast And Diversity”, the new brand for Kuala Lumpur also embodies 3 other attributes: exciting, surprising, and enticing.

According Bernama, the 3 attributes mean exciting experience at every point, surprising in many ways as the features in the city are discovered, and enticing visitors to experience the variety of attractions. The objective of this brand new identity is to showcase KL’s “contrasting heritage, diverse attractions, as well as its multi-cultural and multi-religious society”.

“Kuala Lumpur needs a distinctive identity which all residents believe in and the identity values must be able to create curiosity among international travellers. KL branding will also focus on building pride. It will boost and elevate our own sense of pride and to take the KL brand to the world stage,” said city mayor Datuk Seri Mohd Amin Nordin.

Amin Nordin also stated that landmarks with the brand “Kuala Lumpur: Exciting. Surprising. Enticing.” will be set up at 3 different areas around the city by the end of August to educate KLites. “We will install the first one at Dataran Merdeka, followed by Bulatan Semantan and Jalan Sungai Besi,” he said.

KL’s brand identity will be a long-term process that would lead to 2020 – the year where Malaysia is expected to become a fully developed country.
