Malaysia Day weekend is right around the corner, and like Merdeka Day, this year’s occasion will be a special one as it marks the 1st year we celebrate the patriotic event under a new ruling.

Though the event is not widely celebrated like Merdeka Day, it is still a day worth commemorating as it marked the joining together of Malaya, North Borneo and Sarawak to form the Malaysia we know today.

So in conjunction with the Malaysia Day that’s happening this weekend, here are some fun, family-friendly patriotic events that you can join with your loved ones.

1. We Are Malaysians by Harith Iskander – The Joke Factory

Get ready for Harith Iskander’s upcoming Malaysia Day show aptly titled “We Are Malaysians” where the stand-up comedian takes a fresh look at not just Malaysia’s colourful history and its greatest moments but also celebrates the best that Malaysia has to offer in its people, places, and achievements.

2. Rise: Ini Kalilah

Catch the new patriotic-themed movie “Rise” Ini Kalilah” at the nearest cinemas and relive the historical moments together with your family and friends. The movie features a line-up of popular cast including Remy Ishak, Mira Filzah, Sangeeta Krishnasamy, Jack Tan, Shashi Tharan, Jenn Chia, Mark O’dea, and more.

3. Proud to be Malaysian – Sunway Lagoon

A whole lot of Malaysian goodness and fun activities will be available at Sunway Lagoon this week, leading up to the exciting Malaysia Day. From the flavours of Malaysia, to traditional games, activities and performances, come and celebrate the establishment of the Malaysian federation proudly with the spirit of togetherness.
