We know that it’s impossible to please everyone. After all, everyone has a different opinion which can be hard to reconcile with. However, we still hope for the best, especially when it comes to our pet project. For acting legend Louis Koo (古天樂), this has never been more true.
Louis is known for his skills in acting, singing and directing. In fact, he recently released his latest film “Warriors of Future (明日战记)”. However, it apparently hasn’t been doing well in the box office. This has been especially painful for Louis as he spent 10 years and invested 450 million Hong Kong dollars (~RM255 million) on this film.
“Warriors of Future” was first released in China on 5th August. However, since then, its has only taken 310 million yuan (~RM204 million) at the box office. It is supposedly less than Louis had expected for his film and it has broken his heart. In fact, netizens claim he was spotted wiping away tears during a promotional event!
The famed artist has been trying to promote the film to the best of his ability. He has joined a live broadcast discussing the film and spoke about it being made. Unfortunately, the situation did not improve by much. During another promotional event, fans were quick to comment that Louis’ happiness was only on the surface. As one fan wrote, “The world is so cruel! 10 years of hard work, but (there is) no reward!”
Louis penned a post yesterday (14th August) to ask for support. “I hope that all sci-fi movie fans can (watch) and support (the movie),” he stated “As a representative of work in the Asian market, I sincerely look forward to corrections in all aspects. My goal is to get everyone’s approval and (allow) me to do more things in the future.”
So far, Louis’ situation has churned up mixed feelings. Some claim the film is worthwhile and are actively promoting it. Others are commenting that the lack of theatres in China is affecting the box office numbers. However, some have stated that the film is too “old-fashioned” to do well.
Well, we hope things will improve for Louis soon. The film is also set to be released in Hong Kong on 25th August, which will hopefully bring up box office numbers. In the meantime, we’re certain the actor will be treating this as a learning moment for himself.
