Road accidents have been becoming more prevalent lately, and unfortunately, a police convoy recently joined the list. Earlier this morning (20th September), around 10.20am, a convoy reportedly got into an accident on the Persiaran Utara highway, leading to the road being closed.

The accident reportedly involved two lorries, six cars and four motorcycles. Unfortunately, said accident left seven injured and two deceased. Netizens have since been left horrified and distressed by the videos of the accident circulating online.

Kes baru berlaku di Putrajaya.. Kemalangan berlaku ketika jalan ditutup untuk konvoi VVIP/Menteri.. Ada orang awam dilaporkan maut.. Brek lori tak makan katanya.. Belum dapat info penuh..pic.twitter.com/2iQ68G6aCE

It was initially believed that the convoy had been a ministry convoy headed towards Putrajaya from IOI. However, it was later revealed that it had not been a ministry convoy, but instead, was a police convoy, reportedly out for an escort training exercise for the upcoming Le Tour De Langkawi 2023.

According to the videos, it seems a lorry had crashed into the convoy of police. Several videos showed the motorcycles driving ahead, before a lorry skidded into the line, crashing into two cars and two motorcycles. Currently, two deceased have been confirmed, and both are allegedly civilians.

While some assumed the police were to blame for breaking suddenly, others have reported that the lorry’s breaks had not been working, hence it’s crash into the cars and bikes. This has led to netizens criticising their actions.

Several questioned why most accidents involved heavy vehicles and their non-functioning brakes. “The driver must have made the decision to collide with the vehicles in front (of them),” one opined. “Why didn’t they turn the wheel to the left and collide with the trees at the side of the road? (It) would have avoided (killing) innocent lives.”

Others felt such accidents were far too common. “It seems like it was bound to happen sooner or later. This lorry issue has been (a long time coming). And the issue of convoys or closing roads in risky areas,” a comment read. Another said: “With every passing day, the more my heart hurts reading about accidents caused by lorries. Wtf? Until when will people die because of other people’s carelessness?”

Our hearts go out to the victims involved in the accident. We sincerely hope the injured will recover soon, and wish peace on those who have passed. We also urge those driving to take care on the road, not only for your sake, but for others as well, especially in this rainy season.
