A local woman was left traumatised after a OKU (Person With Disabilities) teen attempted to attack her on a recent visit to a Cheras shopping mall. According to the 26-year-old, she was at a car dealership at the mall with her boyfriend when she needed to use the restroom. As she was unfamiliar with the area, her boyfriend decided to wait outside the restroom.
While inside, the woman was frightened by the sudden appearance of a young man who rushed towards her with a knife. The woman said that the man was hiding inside one of the stalls in the restroom, perhaps waiting for a potential victim. When she shouted for help, her boyfriend immediately rushed inside the restroom. According to the woman, the teen then threatened her boyfriend by waving his knife. After a brief struggle, the boyfriend captured the teen, and the two then asked for help from the mall’s security guards and nearby visitors.
A saloon employee in the mall was able to tie up the teen’s hand using rope while they waited for security to arrive. The women revealed that security guards recognised the boy, saying that management had banned the teen from entering the mall for peeping on women in the restroom. The 16-year-old had even filmed a 50-year-old using the restroom and was arrested twice. However, authorities let him off because they suspected that he had a disability.
When questioned about his voyeurism, the teen replied, “I want woman and money” and “I’m addicted to spying on women”. The boy’s phone also had a photo of an adult actress as its wallpaper image. The victim then called the cops and the teen was taken into custody. According to the Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zam Halim, authorities will detain the teen until the 9th and will also look into the claims that he is a person with a disability.
The 26-year-old victim says she’s still shocked by the incident but was even more surprised that the culprit was allowed into the mall despite being a repeat offender. She also pointed out that the mall houses a dance academy, expressing concern that the culprit would target one of the young girls attending the academy.
We hope the culprit will receive the appropriate punishment for his actions. We also urge everyone to be more alert when entering a public restroom.
