20th May is a special day for many reasons. It is not just another Valentine’s day. 520, when read in Mandarin – 五二零 (wǔ èr líng) – is a homonym to I love you 我爱你 (wǒ ài nǐ). Hence, it is tradition for a lot of couples to share lovey-dovey posts on their social media.
Even local celebrity Henley Hii (许亮宇) is not missing out on this auspicious day! He was generous to share the process of his marriage proposal with his now-wife and actress Pauline Tan (陳俐杏) on his social media accounts commemorating the day.
The Sabahan born actor/singer-songwriter had also released a music video for his latest song “+-×÷” and there were many hidden Easter eggs for fans to catch on. Henley can be seen confessing his feelings to his real-life significant, who played the female lead in the video and was seen wearing a wedding dress at the end of the video. The ‘Just Married’ car plate in the mv also hinted on their real-life marital status.
Adding on to this joyous day of 520, he officially announced his marriage ceremony that was held at the Klang Hokkien Association Hall. In his social media caption, Henley jokingly wrote, “In conjunction with today’s 520, I’m here to inform everyone that Pauline Tan is my ex girlfriend.” He also included the hashtags ‘#老婆大人’ (My wife) ‘许太’ (Mrs Hii) on the post as well. That was accompanied with his Bali vacation pictures and his marriage ceremony pictures.
In regards to the matrimony news, the singer thanked the fans for supporting the new song and shared more to various Chinese publications about his marriage. The couple were married on 17th May, adding, “The timing felt right, and we also wanted to explore our life and future together. So we decided to wed.”
Their bond was strengthened during the 3rd MCO when they were both quarantined together under the same roof for 3 months. The fact that they got along well and had great chemistry, only cemented the fact that they are meant for each other. Marriage was the next logical step.
Instead of a public proposal, Henley opted for an intimate approach when he secretly slipped on the wedding ring while she was asleep during their trip to Bali. Aw… Sweetness overload!
