To avoid having your belongings repossessed by the bank, it’s crucial to make timely payments. Otherwise, you might end up like this man, who resorted to changing his license plate number to prevent his luxury vehicle from being taken from him.
As reported by NST, a man apparently switched the license plate of his Toyota Alphard with his wife’s BMW 318i in an attempt to prevent his car from being repossessed. The evasion tactic seemed to be working—until he was caught by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

Earlier this week, the 36-year-old suspect and his family were driving along Jalan Sungai Buloh-Shah Alam at around 11:51 am when they were asked to pull over by JPJ officers. When questioned about their destination, the man told the officers they were heading to a self-defence exhibition at a shopping mall in Subang.
According to Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan, officers discovered that the man’s driver’s license was valid until 2028. However, upon further inspection, they found that the license plate on the vehicle did not match the car or its registered model.

“Further investigations revealed that the suspect had been using the licence plate on the vehicle after moving here from Sarawak,” he told reporters. When questioned about the switch, the suspect claimed that the bank would repossess his Toyota Alphard due to unsettled outstanding loan payment.
The case is currently under investigation pursuant to Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987. If found guilty, the suspect could face a fine of between RM5,000 and RM10,000, a jail term of between one and five years, or both. As of this writing, there have been no further updates on the man.
