Many news and issues have been revolving around Maybank and services lately, ranging from having a service disruption for some time to becoming a hotspot among tourists. What if this time the root of the topic doesn’t arise from humans but from the machine itself?

Over the weekend, Twitter user @/pedoqpop, posted on his account regarding a torn RM20 received from an ATM in Maybank during a withdrawal. Without disclosing the location of the bank, the man rambled in the caption, stating that upon receiving the damaged note, he even attempted to bank the money back into the machine, but unfortunately, the machine rejected the disfigured note. He also added by sending an advance apology to the street vendors, who would be receiving this particular note from him in the future.

This serious but comical incident led to local netizens expressing their thoughts in the replies, where some conveyed their humorous comments while others provided solutions for the man. A local netizen jokingly commented below his post, wondering who would chew off the RM20 note, whereas another user humorously claimed that the damage from the note had reduced the value of the money from RM20 to RM18.20.

Similarly to a previous incident regarding burnt notes, one user suggested that the Twitter user change the damaged notes to new ones by approaching the counters at the bank, as it would be better than receiving curses from street vendors when he’s out buying food later. There was also another user who commented that parking ticket machines at malls or the ticket slots at subway stations usually accept defective money, and he could just use it there as well.
