A local GrabCar driver has recently gone viral for his out-of-the-box approach in making himself stand out to possible job recruiters. It all started after a tweet posted by him blew up online.

In his post, the man named Naziruddin Najohan, uploaded a photo showing his résumés attached at the back of his car’s headrests. Much to his surprise, this caught the attention of one of his passengers. Here’s what happened:

“A passenger snapped a photo of (my résumé) and sent it to a recruiter. I thought he was just a normal person. But after checking on his LinkedIn page, it turns out that he’s actually a Department Director of an e-commerce company. I had a conversation with the recruiter the next day, and I’ve passed the first stage. Let’s see what happens next,” he tweeted. Naziruddin also added that other passengers have been snapping pictures of his résumé to help him get a job.

Naziruddin spoke to mStar after his Twitter post went viral. He shared that the idea came about spontaneously following his conversation with a female passenger.  According to him, “She asked me how long have I been working as a Grab driver. So, I shared a little bit about my background. She also asked about my educational, before asking me to for my résumé. It just so happened that I had a physical copy of my résumé, so I just handed it to her.”

“From there, I realised that most of my passengers are working adults. Some of them might be employed in companies with vacancies available. This prompted me to print out my résumé and paste it at the back of my car seat,” the Chemical Engineering graduate added during the chat.

Naziruddin also revealed that he had experience working as a Sales Engineer in two different companies previously. He then switched his career to full-time Grab driver after quitting his job back in April. “After almost two months into my new job as an e-hailing driver, the idea of attaching my résumé came spontaneously. It’s only been a week, and I didn’t expect it to bring positive results,” he said.

The Universiti Teknologi Petronas alum also said that he didn’t expect for his tweet to blow up online. “I was deeply moved after reading all the comments. While some said they never thought this method would work, others also pointed out that the idea is brilliant. Some even thanked me for sharing the idea. To me, there’s nothing wrong with sharing good ideas. Then again, I didn’t expect this would also helped others who are currently seeking for a job just like me,” Naziruddin told the local portal.

“In fact, this also brings awareness that Grab drivers can come from a variety of backgrounds. Some of them are fresh graduates, while others used to have a stable job, but were laid off. Praise God, this method has opened the doors to so many career opportunities. Hopefully things will go well for me,” Naziruddin ended the interview.
