Malaysia’s politics have stolen the show again, what with the judge’s new ruling on the Syed Saddiq’s case. On the other hand, politician Lim Guan Eng (林冠英)’s reaction to the news that he is secretly related to Lee Kuan Yew and communist leader Chin Peng is a pretty strong contender.
On 7th November, PAS’ Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura alleged DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng is actually related to Chin Peng and Lee Kuan Yew (李光耀). Are you surprised? Lim Guan Eng certainly was. But now, he seems to be having the time of his life watching the fiasco play out.
After politely refuting the rumours and claiming he has no relations to either Chin Peng nor the late Lee Kuan Yew, the DAP chairman set MP Siti Mastura a deadline of until Thursday (9th November) to prove her claims. “If she cannot show proof, we will take action,” he declared.
While waiting on the proof however, Lee Kwan Yew has been keeping himself entertained by observing netizens’ reactions to the mess. In a Twitter post, showing him on his phone, the politician tweeted: “Scrolling through amusing comments on my ‘long lost relatives’ Lee Kuan Yew and Chin Peng.”
The comments have ranged from quips such as: “YB, don’t forget your rich relative, Lee Kum Kee who sells soy sauce” to “Don’t forget your other cousin Lim Chong Wei” and “Don’t forget, Lim Guan Eng is also a founder of the band LimKin Park“. A few have pushed for the politician to sue Siti Mastura for defamation while others have joking advised him to “be patient” with the mess.
Well, we have to admit, Mr. Lim Guan Eng isn’t the only one tickled pink by netizens’ witty responses to his newfound relatives. In fact, the list seems to be growing with well-known names such as Lim Tayar, Maszlim Malik, Bruce Lee and Lim Goh Tong.
But, so far, Mr. Lim Guan Eng has not yet announced his decision on suing Siti Mastura. Presumably, he is giving her the full 48-hours as a show of good faith. The ball is still is MP Siti Mastura’s court and we are now all waiting to see how everything will play out.
