Life Doesn’t Come With A Set Timeline – And That’s Okay

Let go of the pressure to have it all together - your journey is unique, and there's no timeline to success.

If you’ve ever found yourself mindlessly scrolling through Instagram, watching everyone hit their “life goals” while you’re over here wondering if you’ve had your second coffee of the day yet, I get it.

One friend’s showing off their new promotion, another’s posting engagement photos, and meanwhile, you’re chilling in your PJs, contemplating what to eat for dinner. Sound familiar?

Here’s the deal: being 25 (or even 29) doesn’t come with some secret “life together” button. Despite what your LinkedIn-addicted friends or family WhatsApp group might tell you, you’re not supposed to have it all figured out just yet. So let’s hit pause on that pressure to have everything together and embrace the beautiful mess that is figuring it all out.

Forget The Old Timeline: Your Life, Your Rules

We’ve all heard it: graduate, land the perfect job, get married, buy a house, have kids… then BAM!, you’ve made it. Society hands us this “checklist” at 18, but let’s be real: that timeline? Totally outdated.

For instance, I graduated at 26, married at 28, and here I am at 29 – still not a parent. Life isn’t a straight line anymore, and there’s no “correct” order. Some folks get married at 22, while others take years to travel the world or change careers. The beauty of your late 20s and early 30s is you’ve got the time to explore, mess up, and figure out what genuinely makes you tick.

Here’s a fun nugget: the average person switches careers five to seven times in their lifetime. So, that “dream job” you thought would show up at 25? It might not even exist in a decade—and guess what? That’s completely fine. Embrace the mystery. It’s part of what makes life exciting.

When Friendship Turns Sour: Navigating The Pain Of Betrayal

Your 20s Are For Trying Stuff – So Go For It!

Think of your 20s as your own personal experiment lab. You’re free to try new things, make mistakes, and pivot without the pressure of locking into something forever. Whether it’s changing jobs, picking up new hobbies, or dating someone who didn’t make the top of your list a few years ago—it’s all part of the process.

Sure, trying new things doesn’t always mean instant success, but it helps you learn what doesn’t work. Take me, for example: in 2020, I was all in on starting a podcast. Ideas, passion, the whole shebang. But reality? Finances and time management had other plans, and I ended up shelving it. But here’s the kicker: I learned what I could handle and what I need to work on. That’s the beauty of experimenting.

Your 20s are about learning what doesn’t fit so you can get closer to what does. It’s not about having everything figured out; it’s about figuring out what works for you.

Stop The Comparison Game – It’s A Trap, Trust Me

Let’s talk about social media. It can suck you into this spiral of comparing your life to everyone else’s “highlight reel.” Vacations, new jobs, dreamy relationships—while you’re just trying to remember if you fed your plants today. But here’s the truth: social media isn’t the full picture.

Behind those perfect selfies and travel photos? There’s a whole lot of hustle, self-doubt, and late-night doubts. That influencer living their “dream life”? They might be burnt out. Comparing yourself to others isn’t just unrealistic—it’s unfair. There will always be someone doing “better” or looking “better,” but that doesn’t mean you’re any less successful.

So here’s my advice: forget about the competition. Celebrate the small wins: getting out of bed, finishing a project, or just making it through the day. Your journey doesn’t need to match anyone else’s.

Success Has No Expiration Date – You’re Not Behind

We’ve all felt the pressure to “peak” by a certain age—graduate, climb the career ladder, own property, maybe even become an influencer. But let’s face it: success doesn’t come with a deadline.

Oprah didn’t become a household name until her 30s. Vera Wang designed her first wedding dress at 40. Colonel Sanders didn’t start KFC until he was 65. Success is not a race, and it’s definitely not a sprint. Your 20s are just the foundation years. It’s all about taking your time, learning, and growing at your own pace. No rush.

Life Is Messy—Embrace The Chaos

Life is messy, and there’s no perfect roadmap to figuring it out, especially in your 20s. It’s normal to not know what’s next—that’s the beauty of it. But here’s the key: cut yourself some slack. Perfection is a myth. You don’t need to have everything—career, love life, finances, mental health—lined up all at once.

Be kind to yourself. Celebrate that you’re trying, even if you don’t have all the answers just yet. Embrace the mess. Every misstep, every moment of confusion, and every tiny victory is part of your story.
