Most would assume that one of the richest men in China, Yin Mingshan (尹明善), would be living in luxury till his old age. To their surprise, it was discovered that Yin Mingshan had been admitted to a nursing home in Chongqing!

Mr. Yin, founder of Lifan Industrial Corporation once made Hurun Report’s China Rich List in 2013, but has since faded from the public eye. But, it seems at 85 years old, Yin Mingshan was admitted to a nursing home on 29th August. In fact, he reportedly did so voluntarily.

His secretary only had this to say when asked about the elderly businessman’s decision: “(Mr. Yin) has always been fairly open-minded. This is his own decision.” And according to Mr. Yin himself, he did not make the decision lightly.

“I have two children, a big house and (enough) money to look after myself at home. I don’t have to worry about anything. But after I turned 80, I slowly changed my concept of retirement care,” he reportedly explained.

Mr. Yin claimed that he didn’t believe in relying on his children to support him in his old age as “children are raised to be loved“. “No matter how old I am, I must love my children and cause them little to no trouble,” he said firmly.

The 85-year-old businessman added that he had considered hiring a nanny, but felt the care might not be professional enough as they had a lot to do on their plate. “Elderly care institutions have a detailed and professional division of labour, and the staff are professional, so I think they (will) do a better job than ‘contracted’ nannies,” he shared.

However, Yin Mingshan wasn’t planning on resting on his laurels even after being admitted to a nursing home. He explained that he would still be maintaining his regular life, keeping up his hobbies of reading, writing, singing and taking walks everyday. He also added that he hopes to start learning how to play the piano while there.

Mr. Yin built his fortune at age 47 from the ground up after being imprisoned. He invested in various projects but automobile company Lifan Group was what truly changed his life. It cemented his success and made him one of the richest men in China.

Some may disagree with Mr. Yin Mingshan’s view on nursing homes while others still prefer the comfort of their own place. But, on our end, we sincerely hope Mr. Yin Mingshan is well taken care off and will enjoy living out the days of his life in comfort.
