Birthdays are celebrated as they mark another year someone has lived, as they pinpoint the beginning of another segment in the journey that is life. As such, many tend to celebrate the birth date of their favourite people with much gusto.
National player Lee Zii Jia (李梓嘉) is no exception. The World No. 7 just turned 24 yesterday (29th March) much to the delight of his friends. Many left well wishes, each in their own way, and represented exactly their relationship with the popular shuttler.
Long-time friend and best friend Soh Wooi Yik (苏伟译) did not miss the opportunity to appreciate Zii Jia’s friendship while giving the customary birthday wishes. “There is only one Zii Jia in the world. You are you, continue to be yourself and work hard. Everything you do is what you wanted to achieve at the time,” he wrote. “Continue to believe in my love as well.” Zii Jia seemed almost embarrassed by the outpour of love because he ribbed Wooi Yik back, saying: “It’s just a birthday, don’t need to go off topic.”
Fellow players and friends Lai Pei Jing (赖沛君) and Goh Jin Wei (吴堇溦) also took to their socials to wish the national shuttler well. Pei Jing included a screenshot of a video call she’d done with Zii Jia, Wooi Yik and Jin Wei. “Happy birthday!” she wrote. “I wish you good health, happiness and peace. Get rid of (being) single as soon as possible!”
As for Jin Wei, her wish was casual with outright teasing. “Happy birthday to Mr. Acne, (hope you are) happy everyday,” she wished. “Dopamine will make your face look better naturally, don’t worry.” Of course, Zii Jia wouldn’t take it lying down. He was quick to respond with: “It’s okay, you can see my face is clean.”
In addition to well-wishes from his friends on the court, Zii Jia received plenty of wishes from fans and other friends. In his Instagram Stories, he noted that most of them showcased him singing. “Everyone posted videos of me singing on my birthday. People who don’t know me (will) really think I’m a singer,” he chuckled.
Well, happy belated birthday to singer-shuttler Lee Zii Jia! May he have many more happy years to come!
