Many delivery riders have shown their dedication to their work and some have even gone above and beyond to help those in need. However, some have given riders a bad name by committing crimes. Last year, an online seller claimed that a delivery rider stole a customer’s purchased item as it was never delivered to them.
Recently, influencer Ceddy Ang himself became a victim of an incident involving a Lalamove delivery rider who threatened to withhold the 34-year-old’s pets’ medication if he did not fork out cash for the “unpaid” delivery. Here’s what happened:
Ceddy Ang tweeted his recent unpleasant experience with a Lalamove rider. According to the public figure, he asked his vet to send his pets’ medical prescriptions over to his office. The vet did just that via Lalamove but upon arrival, the rider claimed that the vet had not paid for the delivery, and even threatened to withhold the item if he didn’t receive his payment from the recipient.
“The rider had the NERVE! My staff had no choice but to pay ’cause she was afraid,” the food influencer tweeted. Apparently, that wasn’t the end. The entrepreneur learned later that the rider apparently went back to the vet and accused the recipients of refusing to pay. The rider then had the audacity to demand compensation from the vet despite there being proof of payment on the Lalamove app.
“I immediately reported him through the app as soon as I learned this. He got suspended and apparently begged us and the vet to un-report him and he even transferred our money back,” the content creator wrote. It was also discovered that the suspended delivery person had registered himself as a Lalamove rider using a woman’s IC. Judging by how quickly he was suspended, the food reviewer believes that this was not the man’s first offense.
After Ceddy shared his story, many others came forward to share their similar experiences with Lalamove’s delivery service. Some claimed that the delivery riders ran off with their items while others revealed that they also ended up having to pay double for deliveries.
At the time of writing, Lalamove has yet to release a statement regarding the incident. Since Ceddy said the rider had been suspended, we’re going to assume that the situation has been dealt with. Let’s hope no one else will have to face something like this again.
