Hearing the news of a celebrity’s death can be heartbreaking, but learning how they passed away can be even more distressing. Earlier today (Monday, 4th August), Yongin Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi confirmed the news that actor Song Young Kyu (송영규) was found deceased inside a car in a residential complex in Yongin of Gyeonggi province.
According to reports, an acquaintance of the star discovered his body in the vehicle at around 8am and immediately alerted the authorities. He was 55 years old.

Back in June, Song Young Kyu was caught driving under the influence, which ultimately led to his withdrawal from his role in the stage production of “Shakespeare in Love”. Following the news of his DUI incident, his scenes in the currently airing dramas “The Defects” and “The Winning Try” will reportedly be edited out as much as possible.
At present, police are still investigating the cause and circumstances of his death. However, initial findings suggest there were no signs of foul play or suicide, as no note was found at the scene. The actor’s loved ones have been contacted to assist in the investigation by providing statements regarding his last known whereabouts and activities prior to his passing.

There has been no confirmation yet on whether the family has approved an autopsy. At the time of writing, both his family and agency have yet to issue an official statement regarding his passing or the details of his funeral. This is not the first time an actor has been found deceased in their vehicle; 2 years ago, Lee Sun-gyun (이선균) was discovered lifeless in his car following intense public backlash over allegations of illegal drug use.
We’ll have to wait until police complete their investigations, but for now, we’d like to offer our deepest condolences to Song Young Kyu’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
