KL Listed As The City With The Most Skyscrapers In Southeast Asia

2 months ago, it was revealed that Kuala Lumpur has more skyscrapers than the entire continent of Europe and that piece of information was not well received as many suspected that some of those tall buildings are still unoccupied. Many also blamed the modernisation of KL for not properly preserving the city’s historical structures and heritage.

Unfortunately, there’s now new information that KL not only has more tall buildings than the whole of Europe but it’s the number 1 city with the most skyscrapers in Southeast Asia. Here’s the full list by Seaasia Stats:

On Thursday (29th February), Seaasia Stats released their Number of Skyscrapers in Southeast Asian Cities in 2024 list on their social media pages. As seen in the post above, it was revealed that our very own KL city alone has the most skyscrapers in all of Southeast Asia with a total of 241 tall buildings.

Just like in the previous data shared on Skyscraper Centre, there are 173 skyscrapers that are above 100 metres, 62 above 200 metres and 6 above 300 metres. Jakarta takes the number 2 spot with a total of 165 skyscrapers followed by Bangkok at number 3 with 142 skyscrapers.

It was not explicitly mentioned how exactly Seaasia States conducted this research and came to the conclusion you see above, but since the full list of Skyscrapers around the world from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat website was released a few months ago, we can assume that they got all the data they needed from there.

After the posts went up, Malaysians on Instagram were not too happy about the results, suggesting that this would bring about more elevated homes in the future as grounded ones would cost a fortune in the city. Others pointed out that the tall buildings in Bentong are mostly the ones at Resorts World Genting.

Those on Facebook said the skyscrapers in KL are an eyesore as they appear scattered and claimed that many of those buildings are not well-maintained. Are you happy that we’re number one on this list or do you agree with what netizens said about our city’s buildings?
