If the anal sex joke in “Kingsman: The Secret Service” was controversial, “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” took it up a notch by featuring a shocking sex scene.
During the Glastonbury-set sequence, Eggsy (played by Taron Egerton) was tasked at planting a tracking device in a very private area of a villain’s girlfriend, Clara (played by Poppy Delevingne). What moviegoers may not know is that there was a body double involved.
The graphic shot finds the camera following Eggsy’s finger as he track down Clara’s body while seducing her before inserting the tracker into her vaginal canal. The camera then switches to a computer-generated shot of what happens inside of her. Many wondered how director Matthew Vaughn accomplished this shot.
“Well, that’s the beauty of filmmaking, isn’t it? We had to get a lens made, we had to get a camera position dollying very close to someone’s body, but you didn’t want to hurt them by mistake. Having to use Eggsy and then another hand, because it got quite intimate, as you’d say, and making that seamless. It was one of those things that could have been a disaster. In some people’s minds I know that they think it’s a disaster already because they didn’t like it, which is fine and I respect it, but other people do like it,” Vaughn told Vulture.
The intimate scene made Egerton so uncomfortable that they had to invite Delevingne’s husband, James Cook, to act as a hand double. “In this one, I’m in the shot and I said to Matthew ‘I’m not comfortable doing this’. So it’s not my hand – it’s Poppy’s husband’s hand. He saved the world,” the 27-year-old British hunk told Screen Rant.
Despite the discomfort, Egerton has gone on to defend the filmmaker’s decision for including that Glastonbury sex scene in “Kingsman: The Golden Circle”. He said, “You know, it’s not to everyone’s tastes, but it certainly gets people talking. All it is is explicitly showing what Bond alludes to and says in a double entendre kind of way.”
