In Asian culture, it’s common to choose an auspicious date to hold weddings because many believe it can bring more luck and blessings to the couple. 20th October 2024 (Sunday) was one of those auspicious dates, so it’s no wonder many Chinese couples took the opportunity to tie the knot on that day.
Interestingly, amongst those who said their “I Dos” yesterday were the daughters of Hong Kong and Taiwanese celebrities. Veteran Hong Kong actor Kent Tong (汤镇业), retired Hong Kong actress Betty Mak (麦翠娴), and veteran Taiwanese singer Chris Hung (洪荣宏) gave their daughters away yesterday, each at their beautiful ceremonies. Here’s a look at what went down during the three weddings:
Kent Tong

Kent Tong Chun Yip’s daughter, Isabella Tong Hoi Ka (汤爱嘉), married her husband in a grand ceremony in Hong Kong. As the daughter of one of TVB’s “Five Tiger Generals (無綫五虎將)”, it’s no surprise that many Hong Kong stars appeared at the wedding. According to reports, the star-studded guest lists include actress Carina Lau (刘嘉玲), actor Michael Miu (苗侨伟), and Isabella’s cousin, actress Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯). Unfortunately, Kent’s fellow “Five Tiger General” member Andy Lau (刘德华) couldn’t attend the wedding but did send a video message to congratulate Isabella on her marriage.
Betty Mak

Retired Hong Kong actress Betty Mak Tsui Han stepped away from the entertainment scene years ago to focus on her family. However, the 63-year-old recently made news after her daughter, Victoria (龚敏晴), tied the knot last weekend. The most newsworthy moment from the event was when Betty and her husband presented their daughter with three sets of gold jewellery and a large pearl necklace to commemorate her marriage. Amongst those who attended the couple’s wedding were veteran stars Shirley Yim (雪梨) and Amy Yip (叶子楣).
Chris Hung

Hung Mei Fu (transliteration of 洪美福), the daughter of award-winning Taiwanese singer Chris Hung, also married her partner on the 20th. However, what sets her wedding apart is how her two dads took turns to walk her down the aisle. According to reports, Hong Meifu first walked into the venue holding Chris’ hand. Once they got to the door, her stepfather took over to walk her to the altar. Meifu’s mother, Chen Shih-yu (陈施羽), spoke of the lovely moment, saying, “On this special day, two fathers who love her handed her over to the groom.”
Congratulations to all the happy couples on their marriages – and the three stars who each gained a new son-in-law!
