Come 1st January 2018, all vehicles must comply with the automotive heat-blocking window film tint based on the Malaysia Standard MS2669. Those who do not meet the specifications will have to replace it with the standard film. Owners who fail to obey will be fined RM300.
Various testing devices will be made available at motor vehicle accessory shops. Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai stated that industry operators, whether suppliers or retailers, are required to use the QR safety code label for the heat-blocking film installed for every vehicle screen and window. From there, you’d be able to confirm whether the window tint meets the regulations.
“Sometimes, not only consumers have been duped but also the accessory shop operators by the suppliers. But with this system, all levels can check whether the film is genuine or fake,” Liow added. The QR code is expected to be available by mid-November and can be scanned via the “Tin Trac” app from Play Store and App Store.
In case you didn’t know, the rules allow minimum permissible visible light transmission (VLT) levels of 70% for the front windscreen, 50% for the front side windows and 30% for all other windows (rear side windows and rear screen).
