Unfortunately, things haven’t been looking so great for BTS’ (방탄소년단) Suga (슈가). Although the idol has apologised for his recent DUI incident, he has faced immense criticism from the public, to the point where it was requested for him to be removed from his group. Despite the actual CCTV footage of the incident being published, the backlash still hasn’t died down as many believe he is still guilty.
The “AGUST D” rapper hasn’t made any public appearance since the case was reported until very recently. The 31-year-old was seen exiting the Yongsan police station over the weekend after filing his statement regarding the events that took place on 6th August.

Suga was met with a barrage of reporters, all eagerly waiting for the singer to issue a statement. He expressed remorse for his actions and promised to take full responsibility. Yesterday (25th August), the BTS member released a handwritten apology to his fans on the group’s WeVerse account.
In the apology, the idol said: “I would like to ashamedly apologise once again. I sincerely apologise for the disappointment my misbehaviour caused to my fans and those who have shown me love. I have made a big mistake and have forgotten my responsibility to repay everyone with actions worthy of the amount of love that I have received. Everything is my fault. My indiscretion has given everyone who cares about me a difficult time. I will not make the same mistake again and I will live while repenting for my mistake.”
Suga also acknowledged the confusion his first written apology had caused and expressed remorse for tarnishing his group’s name. “I’m very sorry and am in pain for causing harm to the BTS members and the team, to the point I cannot express fully. I am sorry to the members who have always trusted me because they are having a hard time because of me. And I know how disappointed the fans, who have supported me, must feel,” he added.

By the end of the apology, the BTS member promised to reflect on and make amends for his actions. Although disappointed by the incident, ARMYs’ unwavering support for their idol showed no signs of fading but after receiving intense criticism over the past few weeks, it’s hard to say if the Korean public would be just as forgiving.
