To curb the increasing spread of Covid-19, Malaysia is currently undergoing a partial lockdown. Malaysians aren’t allowed to travel abroad and foreigners can’t enter the country.

In light of this restrictive movement order, several famous homegrown singers who are living overseas have taken to social media to share their thoughts and concerns. Here are 5 of them:

1. Yuna

While everyone is asked to practice social distancing, Yuna has curated a music playlist (including her own songs) that goes with the quarantine theme. A few examples include:

  • “Too Close” – Please don’t stand too close to me.
  • “Someone Out of Town” – Who is this stranger? I should be scared could be dangerous…
  • “Coffee” – I rather stay inside than being out tonight.

Here’s her Spotify link.

2. Namewee (黃明志)

Although Fish Leong is residing in Taiwan, the singer is feeling “quite nervous” for friends and family members particularly in Negeri Sembilan and those living across other states. “In addition, stock up on dried food and prepare a little extra for the kids, but don’t hoard too much because you should leave some for those in need, such as the elderly who live alone,” the 41-year-old added. “Because there are a lot of Buddhists in Malaysia, all Buddhist gatherings should be called off for the time being. Just have a sincere heart.”

4. Michael Wong (光良)

Michael Wong, who has been busy promoting his “Unique” album, told fans that he has no plans to return to Ipoh anytime soon. “Ever since Chinese New Year, I’ve been reminding my family to practise good preventive habits like washing their hands, wearing a mask, avoiding crowded places, and refraining from using shared chopsticks during meals,” he said.

The 54-year-old added, “During this period, we should all be more tolerant, caring, considerate, and helpful towards one another. We should also be grateful to those who are working hard to contain the virus and be of one heart and one mind as we overcome this together.”

5. Nicholas Teo (張棟樑)

Nicholas Teo, who is in Malaysia right now, wants fans to know that he’s a-okay. “I often call my parents in Kuching to remind them not to go out unless it’s absolutely necessary, and I’ve also been mostly staying indoors and eating home-cooked meals myself,” the 38-year-old Sarawakian said.

Hopefully everyone can do their part in staying put at home.
