Instagram: The Swipe Up Feature Will Now Be A Sticker Link!

Don't have more than 10K followers? No problem.

There’s a high possibility that many Instagram users out there might have dreamt of the day where they’d magically get more than 10,000 followers overnight — just for the swipe up feature! After all, isn’t pointing out the famed phrase of, “Link In Bio” a tad too frustrating? Not to forget, the LinkTree account in your bio just to add in multiple links is a whole new different level of headache!

Well, now you could finally rejoice as Instagram’s swipe-up feature would be non-existent beginning 30th August. For its replacement, which could now be enjoyed by all, Instagram has decided to include link stickers, which are tappable stickers in stories that would take people to external websites!

Now, users can format the look of the stickers, unlike the previous swipe-up feature which only had a particular design hence, giving users more creative control and freedom! In June, Instagram started testing these stickers for various users, not just for those with the swipe up privileges. According to Instagram’s former head of product, Vishal Shah, at the time of the test, the stickers fit more with the way people currently use the platform. He also said the goal was to more widely roll out the stickers. The key difference between the two features, apart from the obvious gesture difference, is viewers can respond to stories that have a link sticker, but cannot respond to swipe up stories.

Adding on, a spokesperson from Instagram stated that for now, only people who had swipe up privileges will receive the sticker option, but that it’s “still evaluating” rolling it out to more users. This update will “help them determine whether it’s the right decision before expanding access to more people.

Well, at least we could finally enjoy the privilege of adding a link to our stories and finally bid adieu to the constant search of followers just to enjoy the previous swipe-up privilege. Hopefully, this addition would not upset content creators.
