Previously, influencer couple Alif Teega and Aisyah Hijanah made headlines after they got arrested for suspicion of embezzling funds donated to their business. The couple were recently released on bail of RM100,000 each – but what they did after their release garnered more attention.
The pair recently appeared in a live stream to promote and sell products from their modest wear business. The broadcast was their first public appearance since their arrest and subsequent release – but it’s worth noting that the investigation into the case is still ongoing. Sometime during the livestream, Alif and Aisyah began talking about their experience getting detained under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
A video of the livestream was reposted by a local media outlet. In the video, the couple seemed unfazed by the experience, even showering praise on the officers for their professionalism and care during the period. Aisyah also said that the experience felt more like “a test from Allah” to remind people not to get too comfortable with worldly pleasures. However, the couple also said the arrest doesn’t necessarily prove their guilt and is merely part of the investigation.
Unsurprisingly, the couple’s sharing was met with tons of backlash from netizens. Many online comments argue that the couple take the issue lightly, seemingly treating the MACC like a vacation spot. Others said their “positivity” towards the issue seemed odd, given that most would want to avoid being detained by the government agency. Some netizens also said that the couple are still trying to seek sympathy from their followers by using religion and claiming that their arrest was “a test from God”.
