Ever since the opening of Malaysia’s first-ever official Apple Store at The Exchange TRX last year, the outlet has welcomed numerous customers each day. With the recently announced iPhone 16e, there will surely be even more visitors checking out or purchasing the upcoming device.
Although Apple Stores are popular worldwide, not everyone can afford their products. However, this Indonesian netizen claimed that they were very surprised by the number of customers at the Malaysian outlet. Here’s why:

Recently, an Indonesian netizen posted on Twitter to express their thoughts on how well Malaysia’s Apple Store is thriving after spending about two hours at the establishment. “I saw a flow of customers coming and going, buying all sorts of Apple products like iPhones, iPads, MacBook Pros and iMacs like hotcakes,” said the visitor. From their observation, they concluded that Malaysia is doing well and that our country’s middle class is economically strong.
The post has since gone viral, sparking debate among both Malaysian and Indonesian netizens. On one hand, some agreed with the user’s points, with a few claiming that Apple products in Malaysia are cheaper than those in Indonesia. Others argued that Malaysia isn’t actually doing any better, suggesting that many of its people purchase these luxury items using credit cards, Pay Later services or monthly instalments.

Many also pointed out that the tweet might actually be a parody of another. According to some users, the post may be referencing a certain ‘buzzer’ (an Indonesian term for a person who shares opinions on viral issues online), as there was a similar post in 2024 where the buzzer claimed that a country’s success could be judged based on the success of an authorised Apple reseller store.
Regardless of whether the Tweet was a parody or not, it certainly had people from the aforementioned neighbouring countries discussing their respective economies and how they can be improved. What are your thoughts on the issue?
