Following the highly successful 2015 instalments of IMS Ibiza (May) and IMS Engage in Los Angeles (April), the world’s most influential and most forwardthinking business platform for electronic music, will set foot for the first time in China.
IMS China adds to a total of 4 IMS summits to be held around influential electronic music cities in the world for electronic music (Ibiza, Los Angeles, Singapore, and now Shanghai).
Shanghai, the megatropolis with a big club and festival culture, is China’s largest city with a population of 23 million people. It’s also a popular stop for globetrotting superstar DJs/producers, fuelling its thriving dance music scene. IMS China marks the summit’s second foray into Asia, following the 2014 IMS Asia-Pacific in Singapore.
Upon the announcement, IMS’ co-founder Ben Turner revealed:
It’s just one aspect of our push and support of the Asia-Pacific region. IMS Asia-Pacific is our overview of the entire region, and IMS China will shine a spotlight on one country with a gigantic opportunity for growth.
IMS is founded by industry leaders of the global music scene – Pete Tong; Ben Turner; Danny Whittle; Mark Netto; and Simeon Friend – and they have shaped and contributed to the ever-evolving electronic dance music genre through their work.
Presented by UK dance music legend Pete Tong, IMS is an educational, inspirational and motivational thought leadership platform dedicated to creating awareness of, and appreciation for electronic music, the artistry related to DJ-ing and all-related popular art forms, primarily through the presentation of summits and events that celebrate the historic and ongoing contribution of the genre to art and culture worldwide.
And that’s not all! IMS China will be held to coincide with Budweiser Storm Electronic Music Festival, China’s largest outdoor EDM festival.
On IMS China, Ben Turner added:
This is a great opportunity to explore a huge emerging market and to really help decipher the opportunity there. The event is as much to unite the industry there as it is for the rest of us to find ways of collaborating and understanding the country.
Founded in 2013, Storm Festival drew 24,000 revellers that year, setting a benchmark for the Chinese EDM industry.
In 2014, it saw another attendance record with 35,000 people over 2 days, making it the most successful and well organised festival in Shanghai. Storm 2014 was supported by 80 pre-parties across 21 cities in China, plus six warehouse-sized parties in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, leading up to the 2-day festival.
Storm Festival has showcased global acts including Axwell Ingrosso, Dash Berlin, Kaskade, and Avicii, to say the least.
IMS China is set to take place in Shanghai on 2nd October 2015. More details will be announced soon so hang tight 😉
