It’s a sad day for Hollywood fans after news outlets reported that prolific actor Val Kilmer has sadly passed away. The “Batman” star was 65.
Val’s daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, revealed that her father passed away on 1st April 2025 (Tuesday) due to pneumonia. However, the actor did have a history of health issues, notably having been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 and later recovering. His reps didn’t comment further on his death. Just over a week ago, the star updated his Instagram account, posting one of his latest artworks.

Val has acted in many of Hollywood’s biggest films throughout his career. He’s best known for his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the 1995 movie, “Batman Forever”, where he starred alongside Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey. He also co-starred with Tom Cruise in the 1986 movie “Top Gun”, in which he played Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. Val would later reprise his role in the movie’s highly anticipated 2022 sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick”, in a brief cameo.
Val’s acting chops and eccentric personality earned him a reputation with the public. While he has received criticism for his temper off-screen, the late star was also heavily praised by movie fans and critics alike for his charismatic performances in his movies. The actor is also a talented artist who has shown many of his artworks, from paintings to sculptures, online and in art galleries in the United States.

Following the news of his death, fans took to social media to mourn the late star. Many also honoured his career, sharing their favourite Val Kilmer roles and projects. Actor and friend Josh Brolin also paid tribute to the actor on Instagram, writing, “See ya, pal. I’m going to miss you. You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker. There’s not a lot left of those. I hope to see you up there in the heavens when I eventually get there. Until then, amazing memories, lovely thoughts.”
Val married actress Joanne Whalley in 1988, but the two divorced in 1996. The actor remained unmarried until his death. He is survived by his daughter Mercedes and his son Jack. We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of Val Kilmer. May they find solace during this difficult time, and may the star rest in peace.
