Hype’s Now Playing: Yuna – What Do You Mean (Justin Bieber Cover)

Admit it.

You’re starting to have a major crush on Justin Bieber not only because of his looks, but also because of how good he sounded in his Skrillex/Diplo collaboration “Where Are U Now“, as well as his latest single, “What Do You Mean“.

Justin Bieber - What Do You Mean

In the past few months, we’ve been blessed with a tonne of Bieber covers on YouTube.

From Ariana Grande to Shawn Mendes to CHVRCHES, you could say that Bieber has finally managed to convert more people into his fans. Some covers even managed to capture the essense of the original song while being unique, while others are just bland.

Yuna Zarai 2015

Malaysia’s very own contemporary pop singer Yuna recently performed her own rendition of the song too, and it is quite simply the best version of “What Do You Mean” we’ve ever heard.

Known for her unique organic blend of contemporary pop, acoustic folk, and soulful R&B sounds, the sensational Malaysian singer-songwriter tweeted that she was “trying to figure out a cool song to cover” for her concert tour:

Trying to figure out a cool song to cover for my tour.. but this girl just took up a handful from my list.. not about to compete with that.

— YUNA (@yunamusic) October 5, 2015

As she mentioned in her tweet, a girl took up a handful from her list of songs to cover.

The artistes who are included in the list include Drake, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, and presumably Taylor Swift.

.. so lets see you got Drake. The Weeknd. Taylor. WHAT Bieber too? Oh come on.

— YUNA (@yunamusic) October 5, 2015

One might think that Yuna would choose to cover Taylor Swift’s song, but you shall never underestimate the power of pop music’s biggest heartthrob.

Yuna eventually decided to cover Bieber’s “What Do You Mean” and it’s probably the best decision she has ever made. About 5 seconds into this cover, we were attacked by goosebumps – in a good way, of course.

Take a listen of her beautiful cover of “What Do You Mean” below:

Yuna is set to perform live in Malaysia for an exclusive show on 16th October at Plenary Hall, KL Convention Centre. Organised by The Livescape Group, the one-night-only show is expected to attract over 3,000 fans.

For more information, visit Yuna’s official website or follow her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
