The ideal pairing of chicken and rice is unquestionably a match made in heaven. It is the way to a Malaysians heart and soul. The Chicken Rice Shop (TCRS), one of Malaysia’s most popular homegrown Halal family eateries, presents an invitation to everyone to experience the ideal fusion of the country’s favourite chicken and rice.
We had the chance to taste their current special promotional set meal (celebrating their 22nd anniversary) as well as a couple different side items that may be added on as extras. However, before diving into the specifics of the promotion, let’s share our review. First off, the promotion set meal.
The set consists of:
- 2 single portions of chicken
- 1 Ipoh bean sprouts
- 2 bowls of chicken rice
- 2 soups of the day
- 2 soft drinks (12oz)
You don’t need to worry about ordering more because the servings of just one rice and chicken set, together with some bean sprouts, are more than adequate for each individual. We liked the “Crispy Roast Chicken” better; it was well-seasoned and had a hint of smokiness, which tasted well with the aromatic chicken rice. The three ingredients meld together with the addition of some bean sprouts to balance the saltiness.
Yes, we just said you wouldn’t need to order more since you will undoubtedly be satisfied. However, you can always order extras from their selection of side dishes available on the menu if you’re a food enthusiast like us and prefer to taste several items at one sitting. Yes, they do offer more than just chicken rice!

- Prime Honey BBQ Chicken,
- Hainanese Curry Chicken Noodles

The Prime Honey BBQ Chicken and Kerabu Mango had to be our favourites among the extra orders. The Chicken Rice complemented the Honey BBQ Chicken’s ideal touch of sweetness very well. The Kerabu Mango was a fantastic appetiser because it was light and refreshing and doesn’t fill you up too much.
As for beverages we had:
- Lime Mint Supreme
- Berry Jelly Fizz
- Famous Kuching 3 Layer Tea
- Dino Choco Malt
- Iced White Coffee
The boba pearls in the Berry Jelly Fizz and Lime Mint Supreme were incredibly soft and chewy (not at all firm!). For individuals who like their drinks on the sweeter side, we’d suggest the Berry Jelly Fizz. However, you must try the Lime Mint Supreme if you like acidic, mintier drinks.
