Huge Fires Broke Out In Kelantan & Klang Valley In The Same Week

We often hear about incidents where houses burn down due to short circuits or other causes. Losing your home to a fire is one of the worst nightmares anyone can imagine. Fires can also impact businesses, resulting in the loss of materials and goods. This week, Malaysian news reported on several fire incidents in Kelantan and the Klang Valley, affecting a store, a factory, and an abandoned vehicle depot.

The first fire happened at a recycling factory at Jalan Padang Tembak, Kelantan, on 27th October 2024. Firefighters received the emergency call at 6:02pm and quickly responded. The fire reportedly struck a massive pile of recyclables stacked three to four meters high. The fire has been controlled but has yet to completely put out.

The Head of Zone 1, Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department, Khairul Ariffin Che Ramli, stated that extinguishing the fire would take considerable time due to the presence of flammable materials, such as rubber and polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which accelerated the spread of the flames. A total of 40 firefighters were deployed from the Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Bharu, and Pasir Tumbuh Fire and Rescue Stations (BBP). Fortunately, there were no casualties, though the operation was expected to continue.

The bad news continued, as another fire occurred yesterday at Lorong Haji Taib 5, Kuala Lumpur, causing concern among local residents. The Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia Operations Centre (JBPM) in Kuala Lumpur received the call at 11:31am and dispatched 60 firefighters from the Titiwangsa Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), along with 10 Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) units, two water tankers and each with Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP), and one BATV. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.

In addition to these significant events, another fire broke out at Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) in Taman Connaught, destroying 130 motorcycles stored at an abandoned vehicle depot. Firefighters received the emergency call at 12:33pm and quickly arrived to manage the situation, although substantial damage had already occurred.

Personnel and officers from the Bandar Tun Razak Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), assisted by BBP Cheras, rushed to the scene. While the fire was successfully extinguished, it resulted in complete destruction of the motorcycles, with all 130 units of various models burnt.

These recent incidents serve as a stark reminder of the devastating impact that fires can have on communities, businesses, and individuals. As firefighters continue their efforts to control these dangerous situations and investigate the causes, it’s crucial for residents and business owners alike to prioritise fire prevention and safety measures.
