HoYoverse has been working hard to grow its businesses in recent years, and the latest addition to its empire is the newly-opened, temporary Honkai Star Rail theme restaurant in Kuala Lumpur, run in partnership with La Juiceria Superfoods.
From 11th October to 14th November 2023, the special eatery will be operating at La Juiceria Superfoods as part of the Honkai Star Rail Time to Feast Astral Express Pit Stop event. We were able to check the restaurant out for ourselves, and spent a delightful evening with a warm supper, in a setting featuring all things Honkai Star Rail.
La Juiceria is located at a corner of Menara Hap Seng 2. It’s hard to miss the outlet, as the bright Honkai Star Rail sign and various decorations at the facade immediately stand out. Walking into the space, you can tell that HoYoverse worked very hard to turn the once regular-looking restaurant into an eye-catching theme dining establishment. From the counters to the walls and furniture, it feels like you are entering the Astral Express itself, and the train conductor mascot, Pom-Pom, is represented by an inflatable prop that’s waiting for you right at the doors.
Not only that, but Honkai Star Rail decorations can be found in every nook and cranny, from rows of pennant flags with various chibi-fied characters, to stickers of 7th March, Wubbawoos, and Pom-Pom on the windows and the corners of the ceiling. As we entered, we were greeted by friendly and enthusiastic staff and the sounds of familiar soundtracks from not only Honkai Star Rail, but other HoYoverse games.
Every meal on the menu bears the name of a gaming consumable. Each set is priced at RM45, for which you get one main, one side dish and one drink. There are 3 different combos to choose from:
- Combo A: Cosmic Fried Rice, Snapper Jammer Appetizer and Punitive Energy Drink
- Combo B: Comfort Food, Grande Rejuvepill and Energy Drink
- Combo C: Wild Herb Soup, Fruitwood- Grilled Shantak Mol Drumettes and Vomit Inducing Agent
We went with Combo A. We started off with the mains – the Cosmic Fried Rice features, of course, fried rice with corn, peas and slices of chicken on the side. It’s plated on a colourful and appealing bowl, which we think even kids would enjoy. The flavours are simple, but with a mild sweetness, and a satisfying kick. The chicken is so tender and juicy; and the sauce really compliments the dish, adding a hint of sweetness to the savoury fare.
As for the portion, it was just perfect for one person. Often, we think healthy eating is all about what we eat, but we tend to neglect the intake amount. This dish may seem like a large helping, but trust us, it’s perfect for one person!
Next, we tried the Snapper Jammer Appetizer. It looks like chicken, but is actually fried fish fillet. This golden beauty is coated with crispy crumbs, giving you that crunch in every bite. What makes this simple appetizer even tastier is a good dose of sweet chilly sauce drizzled on it. It’s not at all spicy, as far as we’re concerned, and it’s super good. Plus, it pairs really well with the Cosmic Fried Rice.
Last but not least, we tried the Fruitwood-Grilled Shantak Moa Drumettes, a plate of chicken wings with thick sweet sauce. Sweet, juicy and tender, the dish is all you can expect from a classic drumette offering. For some extra zing, you can squeeze a bit of lime juice on the drumetes.
As for the beverage, we’re guessing it’s a cold-pressed juice (the bottle said so!). The Punitive Energy Drink is coloured a vibrant purple, and has a pleasantly-sour taste. It does a great job complimenting the set.
Overall, every item we sampled tasted good, had a unique aroma, and was presented in a beautiful, Instagram-worthy way. Fans of Honkai Star Rail will undoubtedly love the ambiance and feel that HoYoverse has created a magical place. For us, in addition to the unique experience, we loved the food, which was not only substantial, but healthy!
