Hong Kong actress Anita Yuen (袁咏仪) spent quite some time in Malaysia last year to film for the 2025 movie “OMG! Mom’s Big News (OMG！阿妈有喜)”. It seemed the experience left an impression on her as she recently shared her feelings about filming in Malaysia.
The actress recently held a press tour to promote the movie’s official release in Hong Kong later this month. In one of her interviews, Anita spoke fondly about her time in Malaysia filming for the Chinese New Year film. She praised the country, saying, “The weather is good, the staff are hardworking, the Malays and Chinese get along well with each other, and they don’t shun you just because you come from another country. There’s also so much good food.”
Anita also spoke about the Malaysian film market, noting that it has been more prosperous than the Hong Kong film industry in recent years. “OMG! Mom’s Big News” is the actress’ first appearance in a local film. In the movie, Anita stars as a 53-year-old mother who unexpectedly becomes pregnant. Since the actress shares the same age as her movie character, she said the role feels relatable.
When asked how she would feel if she suddenly got pregnant at her current age, Anita said she’s not too scared about it. The actress, who has one son with husband Julian Cheung (张智霖), admitted that she had tried to have another child before turning 50. The star once revealed that she even tried in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) to increase her chances of conceiving, but her attempts unfortunately failed.
However, the star does seem worried about generational gaps, even acknowledging the differences in her ideologies with her 18-year-old son, Morton. Anita also said she often depends on her husband to help “bridge the gap” between her and her son, as he’s more familiar with Morton’s interests. The actress added that working with young actors and directors also played a role in helping her to understand the younger generation.
