Declining health is normal when one grows older, but it’s still sad to hear our favourite stars having health issues. Recently, fans and netizens were shocked after learning that Hong Kong actor Benz Hui (許紹雄) has been hospitalised, reportedly in critical condition.
According to news reports, the veteran star was admitted into the hospital on Monday (27th October 2025). While there are no details about his condition, the 76-year-old is said to be critically ill. Benz has never mentioned having any illnesses or health issues. However, he did spark concerns earlier this year after reportedly experiencing breathing difficulties while in Guangzhou, China.
Friends and colleagues have been visiting the star since he was admitted into the hospital. Among those spotted at the medical facility were Bosco Wong (黄宗泽), Wong Cho-Lam (王祖蓝), Edwin Siu (萧正楠) and Priscilla Wong (黃翠如). Reporters on site described the atmosphere at the hospital as sombre. Most of the stars declined to comment on Benz’s condition, only wishing him a quick recovery.
However, Benz’s long-time friend Alice Fung (冯素波) did give a hint at the actor’s condition. In an interview with reporters, the actress revealed that the actor had to use an oxygen mask and was barely conscious. Actress Charmaine Sheh (佘诗曼), who shares a father-daughter bond with Benz, revealed that she had long known about his health issues. However, she chose not to disclose any details out of respect for the actor’s privacy.
While Benz is still active in the entertainment industry, he has significantly reduced his acting workload in recent years. He has even relocated to Singapore to enjoy a semi-retired lifestyle with his family. According to reports, he had recently returned to Hong Kong with his wife and daughter. He was also still active on social media as recently as last week, appearing in a video with his daughter.
