Here’s Why Netizens Prefer A 2022 Myvi Over A 2013 BMW Even If They Were Both Priced At RM60k

Whether we like to admit it or not, the car we drive does reflect our financial status (to a certain extend), hence why those who want to look rich would get a continental car – but would the majority actually choose a continental car over, say, a Myvi?

Twitter account Pelabur Bijak asked netizens to choose between a 2013 BMW 316i and a 2022 Perodua Myvi, priced just under RM60,000. The condition given by the Twitter user was that the car would be paid for in cash, with no additional loan and that your monthly salary would be around RM4,000 to RM5,000. For your information, the price listed for the 2022 Perodua Myvi is indeed the price for a new model. The starting price for the BMW 316i during its 2013 release year was roughly RM200,000.

Despite costing the same, almost every answer preferred the humble Perodua Myvi over the BMW. The majority made this decision because of the lower maintenance cost specifically. One user pointed out that even if a continental car costs RM10,000, a user would have to fork out an equal amount just for services and repairs. Even someone who owned both brands chose the Myvi because of his experience with the maintenance cost.

Others also pointed out that Myvi spare parts are miles cheaper than BMW spare parts, so even if the Myvi requires servicing, it won’t cost a fortune. Besides the maintenance costs, netizens added efficient fuel consumption as another highlight for the Myvi because you would likely spend less on fuel than the BMW. Some also commented that road tax and insurance for the continental car would also be pricier than the hatchback.

While the majority did go for the Myvi, there were a few who were okay with getting a BMW if they could afford it. Putting aside a significant amount is necessary for any repairs – but you can save a lot if you’re a careful driver. Of course, netizens also say that the 316i would be great for someone who needs to keep up an image or a lifestyle.
