Grab Malaysia has announced a new incentive in an effort to increase the number of driver-partners for its e-hailing service.

As previously reported, the company has been experiencing a shortage of drivers over the past couple of months. This has in turn resulted to the sudden price fluctuations for their Grab Car rides. They have since released a full statement to address the matter.

According to The Star, Grab will be introducing a sign-up bonus of up to RM1,000 for their new driver-partners. The scheme, which kicked off earlier on 1st June, will continue until 31st July. However, one should take note that they must fulfill a number of trips in order to be eligible to receive this bonus.

Grab also stated that they hope the initiative will attract new driver-partners to meet post-pandemic demands, the local press further reported. “As of mid-May this year, the number of driver-partners on our platform is still less than 70% of what it was pre-pandemic,” Grab Malaysia director of country operations and mobility Rashid Shukor revealed in his statement.

In addition, Grab noted that new drivers need to spend up to RM500 to meet regulatory requirements set by the Ministry of Transport in order to acquire a PSV license, which allows them to drive any type of vehicle used to transport paying passengers. This will require them to attend 6 hours of training, passing the company’s vehicle inspections and also purchasing insurance.

For those who are interested to apply as a driver-partner for the e-hailing service, feel free to visit Grab Malaysia’s official website here.
