A Grab driver in Singapore recently achieved an outstanding feat, raking in a whopping S$6,020.20 (RM19,450) earnings in the span of a week.

A screenshot of the driver’s supposed earnings statement from 9th to 15th January was reshared onto the Beh Chia Lor – Singapore Road Facebook page. It didn’t take long before it went viral on social media with netizens chiming in on the impressive achievement.

As seen in the photo, the driver’s gross income came up to S$5,227.82 (RM16,892), after deducting S$792.38 (RM2560.46) in commissions to Grab and 8% in Sales and Services Tax (SST). Additionally, the earnings also included a S$2 (RM6.46) tip and S$2,080.70 (RM6,723) worth of incentives during the same period.

This means that the driver made a total of S$3,147.12 (RM10,169.48) by driving Grab within one week. On average, he earned S$499.50 (RM1,614) a day, assuming he worked nonstop during that week. There’s no doubt that the driver went the extra mile to rake in the extra income before Chinese New Year.

The post was flooded with plenty of mixed responses from netizens. Most of them were debating on whether it was right for the driver to publicly share his earnings. Some of the comments include:

  • “It is dangerous for driver to drive long hours without rest, it endangers the passenger as well. Long term will be hazardous to one’s health and no money can buy back health.”
  • “Spoilt market and killing all drivers. Wise driver never discloses their income. This will affect the future supply and demand.”
  • “I think what you are doing is quite a show-off. Earnings are not supposed to shared. It should be kept confidential.”
  • “Wow, what a clever driver to expose this on social media. Thanks to him, don’t be surprised that sooner or later all private hire vehicle drivers need to pay tax.”

Does becoming a Grad driver sounds lucrative to you?
