It’s normal for K-pop idols to leave their agency once their contract expires to pursue a different creative direction. However, in some cases, fans believe splitting ways is for the better. One star who recently announced his departure from his agency is GOT7 (갓세븐) member BamBam (뱀뱀/แบมแบม), and his move evokes varying responses from fans.
On 6th February 2025 (Thursday), ABYSS Company announced that BamBam will leave the agency following the expiration of their exclusive contract. The idol joined the company in 2021 after leaving JYP Entertainment. In their statement, ABYSS Company said both parties mutually agreed to terminate the idol’s contract. The agency also thanked BamBam for his time with the company and thanked the fans for their love and support.

Following the announcement, fans flooded the comments to thank ABYSS Company for supporting Bambam over the past few years. Since the company handled many of BamBam’s domestic activities, many fans believed ABYSS Company had a hand in promoting the idol in South Korea and introducing him to the general public. While under the agency, the GOT7 member released four solo albums, including his debut EP “Ribbon”, and went on a world tour.
Surprisingly, the announcement also evoked cheers from fans, who believe that BamBam is “free” from the company. In October 2024, the idol sparked concern after sharing several worrying messages, hinting at disagreements with ABYSS Company. His post suggests that the agency had overbooked his schedule and overworked him to exhaustion, greatly affecting his mental well-being.

While BamBam never detailed what happened with ABYSS Company during the time, the incident caused many fans to develop a negative opinion about the agency. As such, many were happy to learn that the idol will no longer be contracted with the company. Many also hope that BamBam could find a more suitable agency that would prioritise his needs. Meanwhile, others urged him to start his own agency.
BamBam hasn’t revealed if he’ll join another agency or start his own. Regardless of his plans, we wish the star all the best in his future endeavours. What do you think about this news?
