70-year-old TVB host Eric Tsang (曾志伟) has been working with TVB for a very long time. In fact, a few years ago, he became one of their top executives! However, rumour has it that his position in TVB might just be getting overthrown, by none other than Hong Kong actor Gordon Lam (林家栋).
Gordan Lam has allegedly been reinvited back to TVB after 22 years to serve as a senior in the production department but some claimed he will be doing more than that. In fact, many were convinced he would be taking over as a senior executive, replacing Eric Tsang! Well, TVB has since spoken up about the issue to clarify matters.
Some claimed Gordan has already gotten a headstart on his job in the production department. Allegedly, he’s been recruiting people in the film and television scene for future plans. It didn’t help that fellow TVB host Chris Lai (黎诺懿) commented: “How is the return of someone who is so experienced and familiar with TVB a bad thing? I think more people should return and (contribute).”
But, Chris neither confirmed nor denied Eric’s step down as an executive. “If it is true,” he said. “He has worked hard for very long and is (now) 70 years old. Everyone has different things to do, and it is impossible to do the same thing for a long time.” He also opined that places needed change in order to make progress.
However, TVB has since denied the rumour of Gordan Lam’s return to the company. “Recently, there has been news that actor and producer Gordan Lam has joined TVB with a key position in the production department. The company has not heard of such rumours,” they announced in a statement.
Eric Tsang has been absent from the public eye since August as he underwent a tumour removal surgery in Taiwan. TVB had also issued a statement addressing his health, claiming he was temporarily unable to participate in on-screen work. Reportedly, the surgery went well and he currently recovering as per the doctor’s instructions.
Well, we wish Eric Tsang well as he continues recovering and hope to see him on-screen again soon. In the meantime, it’s clear TVB has no plans to bring Gordon Lam back into the fold, for the time being.
