Buddies (as fans of GFRIEND are lovingly known), GFRIEND is back!
The girl group made public the music video for “Fingertip” at noon today (Monday, 6th March). The song is the title track for their 4th EP “The Awakening”.
Aside from “Fingertip”, the album includes 5 other tracks. They are “Hear The Wind Sing (바람의 노래)”, “Contrail (비행운:飛行雲)”, “Please Save My Earth (나의 지구를 지켜줘)”, “Rain In The Spring Time (봄비)”, and “Crush (핑)”.
Prior to releasing the music video, the girl group said, “We can’t believe we’re now in our 3rd year since debut. It still feels like we’re rookies, like it’s only been 3 months.” Maknae Umji joked, “It hasn’t been that long since I was finally able to tell the difference between the broadcasting station buildings. I still get them mixed up sometimes.“
“Fingertip” is written by Lee Gi and Yong Bae, who have written all of GFRIEND’s hits since their debut. The song sings about the strong love of women and “incorporates funky disco elements along with a GFRIEND-style rock sound”.
This comeback also signifies a change in concept for the girl group, from their signature cutesy style to the girl crush concept. The music video shows the girls lucid dreaming. In their dreams, they battle each other in a bid to emerge as the last one alive. This is interspersed with scenes of them dancing on the roof top while singing.
